Windows, Doors & much more in North Yorkshire

Modern windows and doors should require little maintenance and your Niddal guarantee covers you against damages and defects, however it does not cover you from general wear and tear and damages brought about by every day use, here are a few tips on how to maintain your windows and doors, as with a little bit of attention and regular routine maintenance you can easily prevent problems occurring and prolong the life of your product.

DO NOT use solvent-based or abrasive cleaners on any of our products and never use any type of penetrating lubricant (wd40 type spray or similar) on any hardware as this will invalidate any warranty!

Frame Cleaning

PVCu & Aluminium in general requires very little maintenance apart from a wipe over with a soft damp cloth with a little detergent.

Moving Parts

You should lubricate all the moving parts on your windows and doors by applying a few drops of any light engineering oil, such as 3 in 1, to them once or twice a year. The hinges on your windows and doors should be fully adjusted upon installation, but they may loosen over the years. If you suspect your hinges are no longer properly adjusted, they can be re-aligned easily with common household tools.

Metallic Door Fittings

Most metallic fittings for your door come from the factory with a lacquer coating which generally makes polishing unnecessary for several years, but if this degrades in time it may have to be removed and need occasional polishing to keep the shine, please remove the fittings from the door before cleaning and never use an abrasive polishing technique with the hardware still attached to the door.

Glass Cleaning

Glass in double glazed units is easily cleaned with a soft cloth and a solution of soap and water, most brands of glass cleaner may be used on heavier dirt and grime. light scratches can be removed with jewellers rouge, or rubbing compound but please take care when cleaning leaded lights as excessive pressure might dislodge the lead from the glass surface area.

Conservatory & Porch Roofs

These structures must be cleaned in a similar way to PVCu frames and glass . Make sure gutters are clear of leaves at all times.

Condensation

PVCu double glazing does not always solve underlying condensation problems, water vapour is continually present in the atmosphere and modern living activities can increase the natural water content , click on the link for information to help reduce condensation.

External Condensation and energy efficient insulating units

Under particular weather conditions It is possible to get a situation where some windows have external condensation as dew forms on any unheated surface exposed to a clear night sky, In the past this effect has not happened on the glass in heated buildings as the heat that escapes through conventional double glazing allows sufficient heat to escape to prevent dew forming on the external face of the glass, however Niddal energy efficient double glazed sealed units are sufficiently insulated to be resistant to heat escaping from the property and in certain positions and weather conditions it is possible for the dew to form on the external face of the glass of the glass, this is a visible sign of having superior thermal insulation in your windows.

Why do Double Glazed Units Mist Up?

In most cases there is absolutely no need for planning permission. Should your project be especially bespoke or elaborate, it may be necessary or perhaps it requires just a Householder Planning Check. Rest assured, one of our expert team will be able to advise you on this in the early stages of planning.
